What is 'Faith'
Faith is about belief, trust and confidence. In this case, in God; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Faith is the core of our relationship with Him. As we develop and grow our relationship with God our faith will grow to.
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see.
Romans 11:1- The Message
Why Choose Faith?
If you have already chosen faith, you have chosen to believe that God created the heavens and the Earth and that Jesus died and overcame death for you. You already know that you will spend eternity in heaven with God and you have been saved. You will know the word of God and that He keeps all His promises. You will know that God is a God of forgiveness, and most of all love and that He loves you unconditionally. You will know that you are not alone and you are loved and that you can experience joy and peace, no matter what your circumstances are or situations you may be in.
If you haven’t yet, then the first sentence above is the first step and this is the prayer for you:
Reality of Life
I expect that you are quite aware that life happens! We will ALL experience trials, problems, difficulties, sickness at some point in our lives.
When we become Christians, it doesn’t mean that all of these will disappear, i’m sorry but they won’t. BUT, it does mean that we don’t have to go it alone. God promises to be with us. He promises to strengthen us. He promises us that peace, love and joy that we will not experience anywhere else.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9- ESV
I can understand how we can get bogged down (i’ve been there!) Perhaps we become caught up in our feelings and emotions, have days where we are feeling down perhaps even weeks or even years! OR are you someone who pushes these emotions and feelings down and you just don’t think or address them at all? Perhaps you get easily distracted from faith and God?
We can all relate to one or more of these, you are not alone!
There are a few ways to deal with these but one particular way is journaling.
Introducing Journalling
Journaling is a great way to encourage and improve personal growth. This is because it is a way to express thoughts and emotions that are going on inside your mind, even those you aren’t consciously aware of. It also helps to get those thoughts out on paper as it can help you to process and discover why they are there in the first place. It can also give people a sense of release and relief. This is because if they remain inside, with us not recognising them or pushing them aside, they can grow and intensify and come out in other ways. For instance; in our behaviours or attitudes. Which can then impact on the wellbeing of ourselves and potentially on those around us too.
Bible or prayer journaling can help you do the above AND grow your relationship with God at the same time!
Today, I want to share with you a recent publication, which was written following my own journey from poor self esteem, feelings of helplessness and depression to learning how to become resilient with the help of our Lord. The Lord gave me the following scripture and I really had to study and meditate on it but that was just beginning of this new chapter.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11- NIV
