I’ve been through deep depression myself before and struggled to know how or what to pray. I just about managed “Help me Lord” or a short prayer in tongues. But then I was reminded that the Psalms are helpful in those dark times. David has been in that place, and he put together the Psalms for you.

Lord, will you forget about me forever? When will you remember to come and help me? My thoughts make me worry all the time. How long must I continue to be sad? How long will my enemies continue to win against me?
I may walk through a valley that is as dark as death, but I will not be afraid of any danger. This is because you are with me, Lord. Your stick and your shepherd’s pole protect me from danger.
Lord, I am calling to you for help. You are my safe place, like a high rock. Please do not refuse to listen to me. If you do not answer me, I will be like those people who are going down into the deep hole of death. Hear me when I call to you for help. Please be kind to me. I am lifting up my hands towards your Most Holy Place.
Lord, I am very upset, so please be kind to me. My eyes are tired because I weep so much. My whole body has become very weak. I am near to death because I am so sad. I am crying with pain as my life comes to an end. I have so much trouble that I have no strength at all. Even my bones have become weak.
Lord, please attack those people who are attacking me. Fight against those people who are fighting against me. Yes, pick up your shield and put on your armour! Prepare to fight and give me help!
I hurt so much I cannot feel anything. My pounding heart makes me scream! My Lord, you heard my groaning. You can hear my sighs. My heart is pounding. My strength is gone, and I am going blind.
My Lord, I am poor and helpless, but please pay attention to me. You are my helper, the one who can save me. My God, don’t be too late.
‘Lord, be kind to me. I sinned against you, but forgive me and make me well.’
God, be merciful to me. Be kind because my soul trusts in you. I have come to you for protection while the trouble passes.
Pull me from the mud, and don’t let me sink down deeper. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from this deep water. Don’t let the waves drown me. Don’t let the deep sea swallow me or the grave close its mouth on me.
I lie here like a dying man. Say the word, and I will live again. I am sad and tired. Say the word, and make me strong again.
I look up to the hills, but where will my help really come from? My help will come from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. He will not let me fall.
Your Spirit is everywhere I go. I cannot escape your presence. If I go up to heaven, you will be there. If I go down to the place of death, you will be there.
God, examine me and know my mind. Test me and know all my worries. Make sure that I am not going the wrong way. Lead me on the path that has always been right.
Show me your faithful love this morning. I trust in you. Show me what I should do. I put my life in your hands! Lord, I come to you for protection. Save me from my enemies.
Lord, I call to you with all my heart. Answer me, and I will obey your laws. I call to you. Save me, and I will obey your rules.
Lord, I thank you for answering my prayer. I thank you for saving me.
Lord, you are my God, and I thank you. My God, I praise you!
