Have you ever heard the phrases ‘Authority in the name’ or ‘Power in the blood?’ Both of these are about Jesus Christ. Discover how to apply these to your life to deal with temptation form sin and sickness.
We are all sinners, but those who accept Jesus and who He is and acknowledge and believe that He went to the cross, died and overcame death, are saved by Gods grace and have the promise of eternity with Him in heaven. In the meantime, you have been given a seal to this promise; the gift of the Holy Spirit; Jesus, who resides in you.
It is Jesus and the Holy Spirit in you that gives you that authority. We on our own, aside from Christ DO NOT have this authority. It is God’s authority alone.
You will go through life’s storm, difficulties, problems, sicknesses, temptation and sin. We are living on this fallen earth after all. But deeper than that we are also in a spiritual battle.
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12 NLT
But the awesome triune God, has provided us with everything we need to face this battle, as well as the gifts of the spirit (Gal 5:22) to embrace whilst we’re going through it; love, joy and peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil 4:7).
We have been given the authority of Jesus, against dark forces. Speaking directly to the darkness; curses, demonic influence (deliverance), sickness and the occult. You can bind and break these through authority and power in Jesus.
There is power in the blood of Jesus too! Plead the blood of Jesus against sickness, disease & sin. The phrase and act of ‘Pleading the blood’ isn’t actually in the Bible itself. But ‘Pleading’ is known as making an emotional or earnest appeal (Oxford Dictionary). In law, pleading is offering an appeal based on evidence. In the case of ‘pleading the blood’ we can speak out loud the fact that Jesus did die for our sins and to heal us.
“He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”
1 Peter 2:24 NLT
Whenever you face the temptation to sin, speak to the tempter; Satan, reminding him you are dead to sin. For instance, “Satan, by the blood of Jesus, I have been made new and no longer want to sin. By the power of Jesus’ blood, I have been forgiven and am saved. So leave me .”
Whenever you face sickness, speak to the one who has given it, Satan, reminding him that by the power of the blood you have been healed. For instance, “Satan, by the blood of Jesus, I have been healed, so sickness come off of (insert name/ me) now!”
It is important to remember we don’t want to give the enemy too much credit! Check to see if there is anything you need to do or stop doing first. For instance, is there a sinful habit you need to stop doing, or perhaps there is a food or drink that is upsetting your body? We need to take responsibility for our own actions too.
But, there is power in the blood of Jesus and authority in His name, so use it!
