Pray for Heaven on Earth
Heaven on earth is something, according to the Bible, we are encouraged to pray for. Jesus is showing us how we should be praying, this is known as The Lords Prayer. The opening lines of this prayer is “your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
Therefore, this is exactly what we should be praying for!
God’s will to be done and not ours!
This means that we can pray, ask for and experience heaven right here on earth!
We won’t receive the fullness of the glory of heaven yet, that’s for when we go there, but we can experience a percentage of heaven on earth.
Creation, for instance! We just need to look outside and we can see everything that God has made! Have a look at Genesis 1.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”
God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
Genesis 1:1, 11-12, 20, 25, 29
So you can already see how we can see and experience heaven on earth!
But as we read, we are to pray for it too!
This implies that we are to ask, therefore want more of it!
I expect, you would like to see more of heaven on earth too?
Heaven on Earth- Really?!?
For some, experiencing Heaven on Earth might be something thats hard to think about or even begin to imagine! It began with the fall (Genesis 3). But even today; where we are experiencing many illnesses and diseases, for instance Covid and Cancer, war, especially in the Ukraine, even natural devastation like earthquakes and storms.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
It says right there in the Bible that there will be more and more of these in the last days as well!
Take the Israelites for instance. The took the very long route to the promised land, in fact it took them 40 years to get there! As they travelled they experienced difficulties, distractions, opposition, illness, some were even killed on the way. Going through the wilderness was a big part of their journey too! (Check out the book of Numbers in the Old Testament)
The wilderness symbolises isolation, exposure to difficulties and temptation. It is also a place where sheep and cows can feed- it is a land of pasture ( Psalms 65:12, Isaiah 42:11, Jeremiah 23:10).
Whilst we are living on this earth we will go through these seasons of being in the desert and wilderness of our own personal problems and difficulties too.
BUT! We can experience heaven here on earth at the same time!
We are all on a journey to the promised land! This is heaven. But along the way we can experience not just glimpses of it but also more and more of it here too.
The Promise- For You
But what does all this mean for you?
This time leading up to the promised land, your journey, is just as important! It’s a time of feeding and growing. I’m talking spiritual food and growth. Learning about Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit- having a relationship with them!
You are given the promise of Heaven, eternity with God in all His glory and until then you have been gifted with the Holy Spirit.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
The Holy Spirit has many many roles in your life. He is your guide and comforter. So when your needing guidance and comfort- ask Him! He is there with you at all times, you just need to ask. It’s as simple as that.
The gifts of the Spirit are also available to you: love, joy and peace etc., and at all times, this is part of the promise, these are part of heaven here on earth.
In order to receive this promise and experience heaven on earth, we need to do exactly what the Israelites had to do: get rid of the old life so we can live in the new. We are to have a clear out! Prune and get rid of sin and everything else that is holding us back, binding, chaining and restricting us (as we have read) from living in the promised land which is available for us now, here on earth too!
Do you need help getting rid of those restrictions and breaking those chains?
