Discovering your purpose in life can be hard if you don’t know where to start. But discovering your God-given purpose might be easier than you think.
Have you even found yourself asking any of these questions:
Whats my purpose?
Why am I here?
Whats the point in life?
I did! What I’m doing now is definitely NOT what I had in mind!
When I was a teenager I wanted to be an actress. Fast forward 20 something years. What I wanted was different still. Then when the Neurocardiogenic Syncope became bad again, I went on sick leave then was asked to resign and that was from a Christian Charity, which I absolutely loved! I finished the Open University (long distance, online learning) got my BA Hons Degree and hoped to become a Social Worker. But, again, the Syncope bad. Cue the questions; Why am I here? Do I even have a purpose? Check out the Youtube vid on the 1st steps of How to turn your Pain into Purpose for more on my testimony and what I would say to the my younger self & to others in a similar position.
The Bible gives us plenty information on what our purpose is. Our 1st and foremost purpose is to love God.
Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
So doing just that should be our main focus; loving Him. But what is it to love? Having a relationship; knowing and spending time with Him, this is how we build a relationship and build that love. We are also to love other people.
Romans 13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
By doing so we are fulfilling not only the law but our purpose too. We can do this by putting others before ourselves, by caring, by giving, this can be in a range of ways, love, time, money. Simply showing we care for one another.
These two examples will always be part of and at the front of our purpose.
But if you’re looking at the bigger picture and wanting to know what your individual purpose is, according to the will of God, and wanting to know which direction to take and what decisions to make then try the 4 step process spoken about in 5 Steps of Transformation.

4 Step Process (To discovering your purpose)
- PRAY- Be specific. Ask God what His plan is for your life. What He wants you to be doing. What direction He wants you to take. Ask for revelation for this.
- BRAINSTORM- Write out your story. Your message, purpose, will already be within you. So ask yourself these following questions: What do you already know? What are your talents and skills? What are you passionate about? What can you help others with? What are the gifts God has given you? 1 Corinthians 12 (I’m currently creating a questionaire on this so check back on this post or subscribe to us to get yours.)
- PUSH- Push at doors, don’t sit back. Try different things. This could be the case of trial and error. Keep praying as you go. If it not of Gods will ask Him to keep the doors close and then they will. But if it is part of Gods plan then you will know His peace in it and the doors will be open to you.
- REPEAT- If the doors stay closed repeat 1-3 if they open you’re ready for your new venture, new journey, in the right direction.
John 15:6 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
Ephesians 1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
You see, if we go to God first, we will soon discover His will for our lives. His good and pleasing will.
Are you ready to step into that? If you’re not already there.
