God IS your protector! You see and hear this throughout the Holy Bible. But do you KNOW this in your heart?
Let’s have a look at what Psalm 18 tells us about God our protector.
I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. (v1-3)
This isn’t just for David, this is for all of God’s children.
This is for you!
The Lord is there, He is with you at all times. He is your shield and your protector! As you can see, we need to be praising Him, like David did, too! Tell Him you love Him, give Him thanks for your salvation and everything He has done in your life. You have been saved, so show and give Him your appreciation.
There are many ways in which we can praise God. For instance; through prayer, thanksgiving, song, worship and even meditation. Spend time mediating on the following verse.
(Meditation and repetition can help you to remember the verses being mediated on.)
But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears. (v6)
He hears your prayers. He sees you where ever you are. What ever you’re doing and whatever your circumstances. He is there and He is there for you and your protection ALL the time! It’s up to us, it is up to you, to go to Him. Pray. Talk to Him. Cry out to Him. He will hear you. Wether you believe or think it or not.Â
He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. (v16-18)
He will rescue and protect you. We can learn to be resilient and remain faithful, like Job.

Job went through some extremely difficult times but, despite everything, He knew God was there. We need to remember this too. We are to keep His ways (v21) and the Lord will reward us for doing what’s right (v24). Keeping our relationship going with Him, trusting Him and knowing that God will protect and rescue you.

This could be a matter of timing and the chances are, not our own! As His children, we need to remember that He will protect us, but also that He has and sees the bigger picture. In the meantime, we can ask ourselves “what can we learn from this situation?” instead of “why me?” We can also go to Him and remember that we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit too, to protect (v10), guide (John 10:27), uplift (1 John 4:4) and give us peace (Isaiah 26:3).
God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? (v30-31)
In Protection You will...
- Be Strengthened (v32, 39)
- Be trained (v34)
- Be supported (v35)
- Be victorious (v43, 50)
- Be safe (v47-8
So remember, through all seasons, the good and the tough times, your God is your rescuer and He WILL protect you.
