So how can we start practising soulcare?
Looking back at #1 in the series, we talk about self, emotions, will, intellect, evil and conscience all being part of the soul. So, in order to care for the soul we need to be looking out and caring for these.
Right?
Will & Conscience
Lets begin with “will”. Reason being, if we’re wanting to do anything or change something we need to start with our own will and desires. If there is something we want, we go and get it, don’t you? (Within reason obviously!) Or ask someone for it or to help. Or find out how to go about getting it.Â
But before we go about any of this we need to first ask God, what His will is. We can ask and His response will be “yes”, “no” or “wait”. Then when our will aligns with His, we are following and submitting to Him, we can’t go wrong.
Â
1 John 5:4 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
If you are wanting to start practising soulcare, it should begin with your will and desire to do so.
So first things first;Â
Do YOU want to start practising soulcare?
Next, your conscience. The Cambridge dictionary describes this as:
“The feeling that you know and should do what is right and should avoid doing what is wrong, and that makes you feel guilty when you have done something you know is wrong.”
Most people experience these feelings. Though, sadly through TV, childhood, upbringing, life experiences and people around us, our moral fibre can become damaged. Which can result in our conscience becoming faded.
But we need to learn to revive it if this has happened as our conscience is our guide. But more importantly, as Children of God we also need to be guided by the Holy Spirit. Â
1 Kings 18.12 It will come about when I leave you that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you where I do not know
1 Timothy 1:19 Holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith
Romans 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God
Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water
So, we need to learn to listen to our conscience and the Holy Spirit.
We can do this by
- Prayer;
Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit.
- Reading His word;
Scripture is breathed out by God (Acts 1:8/ 2 Timothy 3:16)
- Listening to Him;
Spend time in silence, waiting for His response when you pray. Meditate on the word, so you can hear what He is saying to you.
Proverbs 22:17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge
Lets pray...
Dear Lord,
Â
 Thank you for your grace, word and Holy Spirit. Please pour your spirit over me and guide me through each day. Help me to know what is right and to hear everything you have to say to me. I submit to you now Lord, so let your will be done in my life, for your glory.
Thank you.
Amen
