What is the soul?

What is our soul?

I wanted to share with you all what i’m learning and as i’m learning about soulcare, so am developing a series as there is a LOT that would be worth covering.

We see a lot about self care but thats more about how we should care about ourselves and put ourselves first.

But shouldn’t we be looking to God first?

Soulcare Series #1 What is the soul?

We will talk more on the difference between self and soul care next week.

By caring for our soul, we are focussing on, listening to and following God, the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. As this series goes on, we will explore more on how we can do this and why, by using the word of God.

But first, what is our soul?

Here is a video that clearly explains it and what the difference is between the soul and spirit.

Enjoy.

So to sum up, our soul is:

  • Self; identity, personality & character
  • Emotions; feelings & passions
  • Will; own will & desires
  • Intellect: mind & thoughts
  • Spirit (Evil); dwelling place for spirits & nature
  • Conscience; knowing right from wrong
Soulcare Series #1 What is the soul?

So, you see, by, identifying who we are especially in Christ, how we respond to our emotions, what our desires are and where our thoughts take us we can start recognising what our own soul is like. But most importantly, how we develop these and use each of these factors to become more like Jesus.

Romans 12:1-2 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

So, by renewing our minds with the help of God; The Holy Spirit, scripture and prayer, we can transform our soul to become more like Jesus, which will also result in our souls being satisfied, rested and replenished, long term. As opposed to the temporary satisfaction that self care can bring.

Psalm 107:9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Jeremiah 31:25 For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.

Keep your eye out in the coming few weeks for more on this. As, as we go through this series we will learn together how to grow in Christ and care for our soul.

Blessings
