It's OK not to be OK

It’s OK not to be OK

I was um-ing and ah-ing about writing a post this week, because I didn’t think I was in the right frame of mind. But then I reminded myself that that’s exactly what this is all about, is it OK not to be fine all the time and it’s OK not to be OK.  It’s also OK to admit this to others as well.

We’re all good at responding to “How are you?” with “I’m fine.” Even when we’re not. But when someone is genuinely asking, there’s nothing wrong with a genuine response. They’re asking because they care.

Some of you are already aware I’ve got Neurocardiogenic syncope. But this last month has been particularly awful.

*Trigger Warning*

(I’ve been unable to stand up for 2 weeks now, as every time I even try I get dizzy and pass out. So I’ve been shuffling around on my bottom and some days I haven’t been able to even sit up without blacking out. I had palpitations and convulsions last week and now I’m on day 4 of a hefty migraine. And funnily enough, it’s been getting to me emotionally as well. I’m a doer and like to keep busy and productive. Not being able to help out around the house or do much at all grates on me and makes me feel totally useless.)

But thinking about the dark times last year I eventually learnt that its OK not to be OK and listening to We are Messengers ‘Maybe It’s OK’, helped me to realise this.

As Christians, you might feel (I did) that we’re meant to be happy all the time, you know, we’ve been saved by His grace, so why shouldn’t we be?

But the thing is we are in this fallen world and there is disaster going on around us and we do experience trials and suffering.

And God knows this!

Isaiah 40:30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

Psalms 34:19 The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all;

And ultimately He will. Might not, or shall I say it won’t be when we want Him to. But in His time. But we do have that to hold on to; being delivered from these troubles.

Otherwise known as HOPE and FAITH.

It's OK not to be OK
Faith, Hope, Love

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Hebrews 6:19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

NIV

Our hope really is the anchor, with out that, without Him and His promise, these trials would, without a doubt, be harder to bear.

So, let’s cast all our anxieties on to Him because He does care for us (1 Peter 5.7). And keep hold of that Hope that He has given us. But don’t forget, it is OK not to be OK and it’s OK to say “I’m not OK.” We are human beings after all.

  1. Hope you’re feeling better soon! Prayers for you 🙏 Also, I am so encouraged by women courageous enough to speak the truth and say it like it is. Our world needs much more of this…well done!

    1. Thank u so much. Your comment is very encouraging!! I’m always a tad apprehensive speaking about it, but then remind myself why I’m doing it, and exactly that, to encourage others to talk. So thank u. God bless. Xx

  2. Please note that your daily experiences and the feelings that they produce are basically caused by your thoughts. The more you can focus the attention of your thoughts on the positive qualities of your experiences in your relationship with Christ and the benefits that this relationship brings to you, the more positive your choices and experiences are going to be. Faith is a matter of trusting experiences rather than just correct belief in a creed of doctrine. May God lead and bless you in your daily thoughts and choices. Bob

  3. Really it’s OK not to be OK. Faith is something I let soar when I’m experiencing difficult situations. And yes, God comes through in His time.

  4. My prayers are definitely with you, but it seems the Holy Spirit already walks with you! Just keep trusting in Him, as you will continue to draw strength and understanding. And continue on your blogging journey, it will serve you well.

  5. Yes, it is okay not to be okay and I’m so glad your faith gives you the strength to believe in it. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I know it will help others in whatever they are struggling with.
